SERGEANT MATTHEW J. CLAY was born on 7 February 1966 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was assigned to Company C, 3rd Bn, 10th Special Forces Group from 31 July 1984 until 29 May 1987. He was a Distinguished Graduate of the Special Operations Engineer Course in 1985. He left Active Duty and enlisted in Company C, 5/20th SF Group, Florida Army National Guard. On 1 December 1987 he transferred to Company A, 2/19th SF Group, Rhode Island Army National Guard. On 15 June 1988, he died unexpectedly at his home.
He is buried in Saint Columba Catholic Cemetery, Middletown, RI; Section 34, Lot 60, Grave 2.
