JAMES E. KIERNAN JR., 57, passed away peacefully July 13, 2013. Jim was the faithful and loving husband of Cathleen (Davy) Kiernan and the son of the late James E. Kiernan, Sr. and Marilyn Carson, of Warwick.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his brother, Michael Kiernan Sr., his sister, Kathleen Petrarca, step-brothers Steven and his wife June Carson and Mark and his wife Donna Carson and many nieces and nephews.
He served for a full career in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division, the 10th Special Forces Group and as the facilitator for the ROTC program at Dartmouth College, where he served as the program instructor. He retired as a sergeant first class. He was stationed in Korea, Europe, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. He earned many awards and decorations, including the parachutist badge, the Italian high alpinist badge, the Special Forces tab, and two awards of the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a proud Green Beret and a member of the Special Forces Association.
He was buried with Military Honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
