Captain Edward C. Noon was born on 24 November 1933 in Warwick, RI. Shortly after graduating from LaSalle Academy, he enlisted in the US Army and served with the 82d Airborne Division from16Jan52 until 14Jan55 as an Infantry Sergeant. He graduated from Providence College in 1959. He joined Company D, 16th Special Forces Group, RIARNG in 1962 and served until 1970. Ed was one of the more colorful officers in the unit. During an Annual Training conducted in West Virginia, he was assisted by Larry Scott in demonstrating an enhanced interrogation technique. After that, they were referred to as CPT shock and LT lightning. Ed was also an instructor at Officers Candidate School. He would arouse a candidate who fell asleep in class by walking next to him and firing a blank from a .45 caliber pistol.
Ed had a long career in law enforcement. He served in the Providence, RI Police Department from 1955 until 1966. In 1966 he began work for the US Customs. In 1967, he became a special agent with the IRS Intelligence. In 1968, he worked with the Bureau of Narcotics in Boston and Hartford and was a supervisor of the Miami Task Force in Miami, Florida. On numerous occasions he was detailed to augment the Secret Service by providing protection for political candidates.
He died of cancer at age 63 at his home in South Yarmouth, MA on 30 April 1997. He was the husband of Patricia K. (Walker) Noon. He is buried in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA; Section 18, Site 1065.
